Don’t Steal Wireless Signal!

Here’s a case of a 20 year old guy being charged with “Theft of Services”. Apparently, he has been making use of free wireless services provided by a Vancouver, Washington coffee shop without ever stepping into the cafe to buy anything for a period of three months. He allegedly parks his truck in the parking lot to use Brewed Awakenings’ wireless access. He was warned by police after the cafe staff called 911. But he didn’t leave and when police came around a second time, they arrested him.

Am not sure such a thing will happen in Singapore because most places do not have free wireless access anyway. I guess it would only happen to unsecured home wireless networks, particularly in our built-up HDB blocks. I find that the majority of wireless networks in my block are unsecured and anyone with a wireless card would be able to make use of the network. I’ve accidentally used a few of the networks.
